Why Do I Need an Arborist?
Proper tree care is an investment which can lead to substantial returns. Well cared for trees are attractive and can add considerable value to your property. Poorly maintained trees can be a significant liability. Pruning or removing trees, especially large trees, can be dangerous work. An arborist is a specialist in the care of individual trees. Arborists are knowledgeable about the needs of trees and are trained and equipped to provide proper care of trees.
How Should I Choose an Arborist?
- Are they an established business? Be wary of individuals who go door-to-door and offer bargains for performing tree work. They may use unacceptable tree care practices that can damage your trees.
- Are they members of professional arborist organizations such as the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA)? Are they ISA certified? In other words, do they know what they’re doing? Anybody can start a tree business but do you want just “anybody” working on your valuable trees.
- Do they carry Liability and Worker’s Compensation insurance? If they damage your property without having liability insurance, it may prove difficult to get reimbursed. If a worker gets hurt on your property without having Worker’s Comp, you may have to reimburse him for his medical expenses. Be sure to ask for proof of both kinds of insurance.
- Ask for references from satisfied customers. This small step of “due-diligence” can potentially save you a lot of grief later on.
